Bruce Springsteen RDS July 7th 2009

I'm very privileged. I get to do a job I love. (I know how lucky I am).
But tonight the photographers are put so far away, that we are full length on a 400mm lens, and believe me- that's TOO far away.
The tried and tested m.o. for concert photos was always 'first 3 songs, in the pit at the front- no flash'. Now it appears to be 'get thee to the back of the ballpark'.
It's 20 years since I shot Bruce first, here at the RDS. I was so close that night, I could see the whites of his eyes, and got some great shots. Incidentally at the start of the 4th song, as we left the pit,he took off his coat to reveal a waistcoat and bare arms...
Of course the artist should be in control, but it looks like the baby's been thrown out with the bath water Bruce!
